Dear Parent,
Your child worked on following VT Grade Level Expectations:
A3-4:10- Students show skill development when CREATING art by demonstrating techniques and processes in 2D work (e.g., drawing, painting); by using various art tools and materials for specific purposes (water colors, oil pastels, etc.); by using elements of 2D compositions (e.g., mixing colors of the color wheel; showing space through overlap).
A3-4:12 - Students show understanding of visual arts CONCEPTS and VOCABULARY by identifying and utilizing elements of design (e.g., line, shape, color, texture; by identifying and using different media and techniques (e.g. pencil, watercolors, blending oil pastels, water resist, charcoal, pastel, and clay)
A3-4:13 - Students describe art using discipline specific vocabulary, for example primary, secondary, and intermediate colors; geometric and organic shapes; overlapping, positive/negative shapes, slip and scoring for clay animals)
A3-4:19 - Students approach artistic problem solving with an open mind and creative thinking by generating and trying out a variety of strategies/techniques to address challenges (e.g., How do I mix intermediate colors? How can I make details with charcoal?)
A3-4:20 Students develop effective, personal work habits by demonstrating willingness to take part in the activity and see it to completion; by using materials and work space safely; by making good use of class time.
Projects: Working on a right-brain exercise of drawing Vincent van Gogh’s compositions upside-down, using individual color to complete the project; recalling properties of 5 elements of art (line, shape, color, value, texture) and 2 principles of art (balance, contrast) in the sketch book; color wheel and color mixings, including intermediate colors, hue, tint, shade, analogous and complementary colors; scratch board activity of ‘owls’ to practice lines, shapes, texture, colors, balance, and contrast; using charcoal techniques to create negative/positive shapes, making a texture board with pastels; clay animal puppets with slip and scoring.
