Your child worked on following VT Grade Level Expectations:
A2-3:10- Students show skill development when CREATING art by demonstrating techniques and processes in 2D work (e.g., drawing, painting, collage); by using various art tools and materials for specific purposes; by using elements of 2D (e.g., mixing primary and secondary colors; showing space through overlap, foreground, middle ground, and background).
A2-3:12 - Students show understanding of visual arts CONCEPTS and VOCABULARY by identifying and utilizing elements of design (e.g., line, shape, and color, and pattern); by identifying and using different media, and techniques and understanding the vocabulary appropriate to them (e.g., watercolor, water-resist technique, etc.).
A2-3:13 - Students describe art using discipline specific vocabulary, for example primary and secondary colors; foreground, middle ground, background; overlapping.
A2-3:19 - Students approach artistic problem solving with an open mind and creative thinking by generating and trying out a variety of strategies/techniques to address challenges (e.g., How can I create more details? What colors can I use for the background?)
A2-3:20 Students develop effective, personal work habits by demonstrating willingness to take part in the activity and see it to completion; by using materials and work space safely; by making good use of class time.
Projects: Sketching and drawing sunflowers in the backyard; enlarge sketches to a 18x24” painting that is finished with water-resist crayons and watercolor washes; mixing of primary colors to secondary colors; tracing and outlining fall leaves, using crayon and water-resist watercolors; book project “Dappled Apples”, by Jan Carr and Dorothy Donahue with exciting collages beginning with pumpkins to Halloween stories; integration with classroom studies on Native American unit, students made 'spirit bowls' using clay and coils, and followed up on a Native American toy, the clay rattle.
