Welcome to Calais Elementary School's Counseling Program

There are three parts to the counseling services offered at CES. One aspect of the program is individual counseling, which is usually short-term in nature and most often play based therapy.  Referrals for individual counseling are usually made from a child’s teacher, directly from the parent, and/or sometimes based on my own observations, and always with parent permission.

Another part of the counseling program is small group counseling.  Referrals are similar to individual counseling though the nature of the groups tends to focus on specific topics or problems that several children all share.  This forum is especially helpful for children who might be feeling that they are alone in dealing with an issue.

Classroom guidance is also an integral part of the program being offered at Calais Elementary.  Teaching guidance in the classroom gives the school counselor the unique opportunity to meet and get to know all the children in the school rather than a select few.  This allows for a proactive approach to dealing with common problems all children face.  The curriculum we use to ensure that lessons are comprehensive and developmentally appropriate is the Know Your Body health and guidance curriculum which is one of the few health and guidance curriculums supported by the Vermont Department of Education.

What's New in the Program

I'm looking forward to a new school year at Calais this year.  I can't wait to see the students in 4th, 5th, and 6th in the fall and will be in the K, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd classrooms mid January.  Enjoy your summer!
